The 1968 Constitution of Nauru guarantees freedom of religious belief, worship, teaching, practice and observance, and propagation.
Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons have experienced difficulty registering with the government and using public facilities which have been designated for general non-denominational use. These two churches have also had foreign leaders prevented from entering the country in their official capacity or practicing their religion within the country. The government has justified their actions on the basis that proselytizing by these two churches could result in breaking up families.
