Sierra Leone has been ravaged by brutal civil war for a number of years and members of the Revolutionary United Front, the rebel group, control large parts of the country. Generally people are free to practice their religion, however, religious clergy, both Catholic and Protestant have been victims of violence resulting from the conflict, and religious buildings, both mosques and churches have been destroyed.
