Religious Freedom World Report

Prepared by the International Coalition for Religious Freedom

Niger

The government respects freedom of religion. Christians (including Jehovah's Witnesses) and Baha'i practice freely. Religious and missionary organizations must register with the government. Six fundamentalist Islamic organizations have been banned since 2000 for disrupting the peace following riots targeted at Chrisitans. Chrisitan missionaries are free to operate throughout the country, but in some cities that are considered sacred by their local Muslim communities, missionary activities are not as well tolerated as in other parts of the country.
