The religion of the country is primarily Roman Catholicism fused with
indigenous beliefs. The largest of several Protestant churches is the Church of
the Nazarene. There are also small Muslim and Ba'hai communities. The constitution provides for the freedom of religion and the separation of church and state.
It also prohibits the state from imposing religious beliefs and practices.
Article 1 of the Cape Verde Constitution states that the nation is republic, sovereign, democratic, secular, unitary,
anti-colonialist and anti-imperialist.
