The 1979 Constitution of Saint Lucia provides for freedom of religious belief and practice and outlaws discrimination on the basis of religion. No laws may curtail the rights of religious freedom unless necessary for defense, public safety, public order, public morality, or public health, for the purpose of protecting the rights and freedoms of others, or for the purpose of regulating educational institutions for the benefit of persons receiving instruction in them.
