Religious Freedom World Report

Prepared by the International Coalition for Religious Freedom

Grenada

The preamble to the 1974 Constitution of Grenada acknowledges the supremacy and fatherhood of God and recognizes "spiritual development as of supreme importance to human development and the highest expression thereof." The Constitution guarantees freedom of belief and association and allows any religious organization, at its own expense, to construct educational institutions. The law may restrict religious practice only in so far as necessary "in the interest of defence, public safety, public order, public morality, or public health; or ... for the purpose of protecting the rights and freedoms of others..., and except so far as that the provision or, as the case may be, the thing done under the authority thereof is shown not to be reasonably justifiable in a democratic society."
